The Bank Of Mauritius Act 2004
Section 40 (2) – Possession of paper currency notes.
Any person who, without lawful authority or excuse, mutilates, cuts, tears or perforates a currency note, or in any way defaces a currency note whether by writing, printing, drawing or stamping or by attaching or affixing to it anything in the nature or form of an advertisement, shall commit an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 500,000 rupees.
